Bartending is a simple art. It is also fun and can be very lucrative. This course is designed to teach you everything you need to know to start bartending and more. We want to do that at a reasonable cost and in a short amount of time. Not only will you learn the basics behind any bar - what and where everything is - but also how you will benefit from things like alcohol awareness and up-selling.
In Chapter 1, you will learn about mixes and garnishes, glassware and the tools of the trade. Also, we will show you how to mix a basic highball drink, along with some highball drink recipes.
In Chapter 2, we will review the most popular spirits, talk about the importance of up-selling and indulge in Martinis, Manhattans and “Rock” drink recipes, finishing with the different pouring methods.
In Chapter 3, we will show you the proper steps in opening a bar and closing a bar. Then we will talk about some “tricks of the trade” that will help you put more money in your pocket (tricks that will impress your manager, not ones that will get you fired!). Finally, we will discuss how to handle difficult situations that sometimes occur in and around alcohol and bars, then review cocktails and Collins drink recipes.
In Chapter 4, there is a brief, but comprehensive, discussion of wines and wine service, also, a discussion of liqueurs and cordials.
In Chapter 5, we will discuss beer in general and the different types of brandy. We will also review popular shots, non-alcoholic drinks and frozen drinks. More importantly, how to find a bartending job so you can put all this wonderful knowledge to work.
The following are merely examples of different types of glasses. You will find many variations from bar to bar. Understanding their specific use will help you remember many drink recipes. This is our top 15 glass list.... (full text is in manual and on the DVD).
There are two different types of soda gun systems: Pre-Mix System and Post Mix System. In the Pre-Mix System the three ingredients of the carbonated mix – soda syrup, water, and car- bonation – are mixed in a canister and sent directly to the soda gun. In the Post-Mix System the ingredients are kept in three separate containers and are mixed just prior to reaching the soda gun. The soda syrup is contained in a soda box, the water comes from a water source within the restaurant or bar, and the carbonation comes from a CO2 tank. It is important that you know which type of system you bar or restaurant uses and that you are familiar with it before you begin working so that you can replace any empty or finished products with new supplies during your shifts...
